Join us for First Friday as we debut local artist Aileen Frick’s Man + Self exhibit, which is based on personal internal conflict. The exhibit will be on display through December 31.
Frick, owner of Torn Paper Creations, reveals that this particular body of work is a bit of a departure from her previous works. Other recent shows have been themed Man + Man and Man + Nature, with the plus sign representing a positive interaction. “This is something I’ve been wanting to do for awhile, but haven’t really allowed myself to… yet,” admits Frick, who was recently invited to be featured in American Art Collector magazine.
The engineer-turned-artist says a late-night encounter with a grasshopper led her to take this new direction in her art. “I’m excited for people to see the shift of my artwork, the ‘new me’ and the leap of faith I’ve taken, and I just love showing at the FOUND:RE, it’s such a cool space.” Frick’s mixed media masterpieces feature a combination of collage, acrylic and oil, and are inspired by her own photos or sometimes by a close friend’s. “It’s very intuitive for me — sometimes I know exactly where something it supposed to go; other times I just have to trust the process,” she says.
